Shifting Tides is a coming of age story that I produced during my Graduate studies. For my thesis film I chose to develop a story about, Victoria, a teenager growing up in the 1960′s. Though she has been accepted to college, she still has dreams of connecting with her estranged surfer father. Victoria’s mother, Angela is very protective of her daughter and is against her daughter being influenced by her estranged fathers ways. This story is about how confronting your past often allows you to fully embrace the brilliance of a new future. Enjoy!
DJ4 Electro Acoustic
Long tones slowly introduce a thriving momentum as children walk along green hills in delicate cities that thrive and shine with light that fills the heavens. Lights glow as generations thrive in their Oasis in the desert sands. Life flows as cool knowledge and compassionate justice thrives. The food is rich with nutrients and minerals.
We meet our hero a forward thinking and mystic visionary who sees the darkening clouds in the distance and knows she must assemble an army. As she has predicted hope fades as the tides shift and the vision of humanity becomes clouded. In the face of oppression our stealth hero silently informs and unites the people under one vision. She makes a decree to return to the ancient ways and use the lost secrets to propel the revolution into victory and return order.
With a handful of elders she resurrects the ancient spells of her grandmothers, strengthening them with modern sensibilities. In a trance her bird cry cuts the air declaring a rebirth. As she slowly awakens she has transformed into a glowing warrior that faces the dark nothing that lingers in the distance. The electrified clouds blanket the sky as a low dragons roar echoes in the sky. It declares the end to the old ways of peace and love and the beginning to the age of darkness.
But our Rebel stands fast on the mountaintop. Not the wind nor the rain or even the movements of the earth can sway her might as she faces the demon in the darkness. With a driving march the old ways of compassion crumble and the new ways of the night begin. Our warriors tears fall as she leads the masses through rebellion and rebirth. She defends compassion and love and struggles to defeat the forces of darkness. The battle begins…. “Electrified Clouds” Coming soon.
Electro Acoustic
While creating this piece, “Electro Acoustic” I felt as though I was weaving an intricate basket while composing these various melodies into one track. With previous pieces I had recently been creating I noticed I was getting infatuated with the technology in my compositions. These past works I felt were becoming almost concept pieces, very personal and yet underdeveloped.
With “Electro Acoustic” I feel I am returning to a sound and even more importantly, to an experience that resonates my tonal sensibility. Sometimes loops can be annoying and other times boring, but once in a while you discover a set of loops that when layered evoke a distinct presence. This new sound entity which stands alone as an individual arrangement feels cohesive and familiar yet it is created of many individual parts and is one of a kind. Enjoy. Abo Jose Greenwald.. DJ4
“The Film Archive”
Craig Baldwin’s film archive is an institution based in San Francisco. The archive serves as a valuable resource for found footage filmmakers and artist. In this disposable society Craig Baldwin preserves 16mm film. This institution is located in the basement of Artist Television Access on San Francisco’s Valencia street. His archive stores media from generations past and makes it accessible to future generations. This helps young artist understand the media continuum that has created this consumer based society. Craig is part on an art making revolution and his archive and his showcase “Other Cinema” serves as catalysis for creativity and fee expression.
Scenic and Lighting Design
This production of Jewish Nutcracker was a dance performance that I had the opportunity to design the scenic design and lighting design.
